Privacy policy
Effective from 1 August 2026
Sektrr exists because closer should feel more meaningful, not more invasive. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It is written under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), which treats you as a "Data Principal" and us as the "Data Fiduciary".
What we collect
We collect only what the product needs to work:
- Account details: first name, date of birth, gender, email or phone number.
- Residence verification data: proof of residence (such as a utility bill, lease or society records) and your society name. This is reviewed to confirm eligibility and is never shown to other members.
- Profile content: photos, prompts, interests, and anything else you choose to add.
- Usage data: how you use the app, so we can keep it working and safe, including reports you file or that are filed about you.
- Device and log data: device type, app version, IP address and crash logs, collected automatically for security and reliability.
Why we collect it
- To verify residence and keep Sektrr limited to real residents of a society.
- To run discovery, matching and chat inside your society.
- To keep the community safe: reviewing reports, preventing abuse and enforcing our community guidelines.
- To communicate with you: waitlist updates, account and safety notices, and, only with your consent, product news.
- To meet legal obligations, including responding to lawful requests from authorities.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use residence verification documents for anything other than verification.
Consent and withdrawal
Where we rely on your consent, for example to send you product updates, you can withdraw it at any time from your account settings or by writing to privacy@sektrr.com. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing we already completed, or processing we carry out for reasons other than consent, such as safety and legal compliance.
Who can see what
- Other verified members of your society can see your profile card: first name, age, interests and a verification badge. Photos and further detail are shared only once a match is mutual.
- No one outside your verified society can see your profile, ever.
- We never show your tower, floor, flat number or exact distance to anyone.
- Residence verification documents are visible only to the team members who review them.
Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active, plus a limited period after deletion to prevent fraud, resolve disputes and meet legal retention requirements. Residence verification documents are deleted once verification is complete, unless we are required to retain them for a safety investigation already in progress.
Your rights
As a Data Principal under the DPDP Act, you can ask us to:
- Give you access to the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct or update inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erase data we no longer have a reason to keep.
- Tell you who we've shared your data with, and why.
- Nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of death or incapacity.
Write to privacy@sektrr.com to exercise any of these. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can reach our Grievance Officer or the Data Protection Board of India.
Data sharing
- We share data with service providers who help us run Sektrr, such as cloud hosting and verification vendors, bound by confidentiality obligations.
- We share data with law enforcement or regulators only when legally required to.
- We do not share your data with advertisers, and we do not sell it to anyone.
Children
Sektrr is for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If we learn that we have, we delete it.
Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls and regular reviews to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat a data breach as seriously as we would want a neighbour to.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we will notify you by email or in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top of this page always reflects the latest version.
